Abstract

The UN-REDD+ program has the goal of reducing forest emissions and increasing natural carbon stocks by taking into account the issue of gender equality. Gender issues in forest management are a concern both in Cambodia and Indonesia. The results of a review of previous writings show that women's involvement in the REDD+ program has not been carried out optimally. There is no significant difference between the low participation of women in Cambodia and Indonesia. The low involvement of women is shown by the domination of men in forest management institutions, where women are only partially involved or not even involved. Their low participation is due to the low level of women's knowledge, limited access to knowledge and opportunities in meetings and decision-making as well as a hierarchical societal culture and deeply rooted traditional norms regarding the different roles of women and men where the public role must be for men and women in domestic activities. This is a concern as well as a threat to the achievements that will be realized in forest management in the REDD+ program such as efficiency and effectiveness as well as justice.
